The Autumn Equinox, widely referred to in modern witchcraft as Mabon, marks the precise astronomical moment when day and night stand in perfect, fleeting balance before the year tips into the dark. While the name “Mabon”—drawn from the Welsh mythic figure Mabon ap Modron—was adopted in the late 20th century, the soul of this day is far older. Historically, the equinox was observed by traditional agricultural communities and folk practitioners throughout Europe. Rather than a single standardized holiday, it was a practical and spiritual threshold tied to the land: the Second Harvest, when the final fruits, grains, apples, and root crops were gathered before the killing frosts.
Spiritually, the Autumn Equinox is an anchor for balance, gratitude, and preparation. To those rooted in historical witchcraft and earth-based tradition, it represents a pivotal shift in energy: honoring the abundance you have cultivated over the light half of the year while intentionally stepping into the quiet, introspective shadow of the coming winter. It is a time to offer gratitude to the land spirits and ancestors, feast on the fruits of your labor, preserve what is needed for the cold months, and honor the natural cycle of life, death, and renewal as the earth begins its winter rest.

Zodiac – The moon in Aquarius lends energies to things involving with Science, freedom, creative expression, problem solving, extrasensory abilities, friendship and the breaking of bad habits or unhealthy addictions.
