Based on the energies of the day, the moon phase and the zodiac the moon is in…

Cancer to Leo

Combining the lessons in my Moon Magic course and The Moon and the Zodiac course, we are able to identify the best, strongest and most potent days to work magick to help bring us closer to our goals, protect us, or help rid things that no longer serve our highest purpose.

So – With the knowledge of those courses within us – here’s how today’s energies align… May you find a way to work with today’s energies to help you get closer to your goal, achieve what you desire, protect yourself or rid things that no longer align with you.

Day – Tuesday lends its energies to efforts of a physical nature like getting in shape or increasing physical endurance.

Zodiac – The moon starts out in Cancer today. The Moon in Cancer lends energies towards efforts around your home and domestic life.

At 5:43am Eastern Time, the moon moves out of Cancer and goes Void of Course.

At 6:34pm Eastern time, the moon moves into Leo. The moon in Leo lends energies to efforts regarding authority, power over others, courage, fertility or childbirth.

Moon – The moon is New (Dark) today at 5:43am Eastern Time. New Moon Energy signifies new beginnings, fresh starts and planting seeds for the future, acting as a powerful time for setting intentions, cleansing and initiating new projects. The New/Dark moon is a fantastic time to do scrying, ancestor/spirit work and divination as the veil between this world and the next has thinned out. Get your pendulum, your tarot, oracle or runes, grab the black scrying mirror or crystal ball. (I would personally recommend against owning let alone using a ouija board but you do you, boo boo.)

Why is it called “dark moon”? I often have people ask me this so I thought I would provide some insight into why the new moon is also called “dark” moon.

While the terms new moon and dark moon are often used interchangeably in casual conversation, they actually represent two slightly different perspectives—one scientific, and one traditional or observational.

1. Complete Invisibility

During this phase, the Moon is positioned directly between the Earth and the Sun. Because the Sun is illuminating the far side of the Moon (the side facing away from us), the side facing Earth is in total shadow. Combined with the fact that it rises and sets with the Sun, it is completely invisible to the naked eye against the daytime sky. It is quite literally a “dark” moon.

2. The Astronomical vs. Observational Distinction
  • The Astronomical “New Moon”: In modern astronomy, the new moon is a precise moment in time when the Moon and the Sun share the same ecliptic longitude (called conjunction).
  • The Traditional “Dark Moon”: Historically, before we had precise astronomical calculations, people defined the “dark moon” as the entire period when the Moon was absent from the sky—usually lasting about 2 to 3 days. To our ancestors, the “New Moon” didn’t truly begin until they could see the very first, razor-thin crescent of light return to the night sky.
3. Cultural and Symbolic Meanings

Because the Moon vanishes entirely during this time, many cultural, spiritual, and astrological traditions view the dark moon as a distinct phase of its own. It is often associated with:

  • Rest and Reflection: A time to pause, turn inward, and recharge before the light returns.
  • Clean Slates: The absolute end of the old lunar cycle, making way for the new intentions of the upcoming crescent phase.
  • Mystery: Representing the unseen, the subconscious, and the fertile void from which new ideas grow.

In short, it’s called the dark moon because it is the brief window where the moon completely hides its light from the world.

So today – With the moon going Void of Course earlier in the morning – take the morning to cleanse your energies, your home’s energies, and cleanse your tools; Recharge yourself and your tools; and to reflect on where you are and where you want to be.

I would also take that morning/afternoon time to think about what kind of intentions I would like to set for this next lunar cycle.

When the moon moves into Leo, use this New/Dark moon energy to really set your intentions around establishing your authority or strengthening your courage. If you are family minded and starting a family is in your goals – this energy would be good to signify that intention and set it to working with you on that effort as well.

Use your preferred divination tool as well to help you really pinpoint where you need to focus if you are having a hard time figuring out where to start.

Whatever you choose to do today, be clear with your intention and mindful with your words. Happy Manifesting!
