In the 2024 Llewellyn Witches’ Datebook, Melissa Tipton shares how she works to shift mental patterns or themes she’s noticed while it’s being activated in the moment.
She gives an example of someone who identifies a fear of being rejected if they’re not perfect having sent an email to a colleague and starting a negative self talk track because no response has been received yet.
“I like to ask myself, “What else might be true in this situation?” This question is less about identifying with total certainty what’s happening and why and more about brainstorming alternative meanings, even if some of them feel a little far-fetched. Think of it as warming up your witch sight, making it easier to see outside the box.”
In the example she gives, she illustrates this: “Maybe the colleague hasn’t replied yet because they’re drowning in other work projects or they’re having a rough week at home, or they’ve run off to the circus…”
“Witches of lore are know for living in the liminal, and we can walk in their magical footsteps by embracing the in-betweens and the maybes. While the ego battles to attain certainty, often at the expense of happiness or accuracy, witch sight invites us to question our thoughts; to expand our perspective; to ask, “I wonder if..?” This willingness to see things differently rewrites stubborn patterns, one moment of curiosity at a time.”
When you catch a theme being activated in the moment, take a second to bring and think about what the alternative meanings could really be under the surface. Again – you can journal this or just make a mental note and work through it right there in the moment.
Have a blessed day! 🥰
