History of Moon Rituals

Since the beginning of time, Humans have been following the moon, watching and studying its changes and its connection with our lives. The moon affects the movement of the Earth’s tides, with the gravitational pull at its strongest during the new moon and full moon.
Some researchers believe that humans react to the subtle changes in the Earth’s magnetic field caused during moon phases. When the ocean’s tides ebb and flow this causes the Earth’s magnetic field to fluctuate.
How does the moon affect us?

Many people feel affected by the full moon and it’s believed that the fluctuations in the Earth’s magnetic field have an impact on us. Lots of people report disruptions to their sleep pattern around this time. While others may feel more frantic in their everyday life.
Some studies have found people take longer to fall asleep during a full moon, and that they spend lest time in deep sleep with lower melatonin levels.
Working with the Moon

Working with the moon and its phases is a great way to explore astrology and your intuition. Moon rituals can also be used as part of a mindfulness routine because they can give you the time to work out your needs an personal goals.
Ultimately this will be different for each individual, as we all have our own unique needs. Everyone has different circumstances and challenges in life, so what one person seeks from a moon ritual may be completely different from the needs of someone else.

Benefits of Moon Rituals

The moon is believed to have a powerful energy that can help us manifest our desires. By setting intentions and performing rituals during different moon phases, we can align ourselves with this energy and enhance our ability to manifest what we want in life.
Moon rituals can help us connect with the natural cycles of the earth and the cosmos. This can help us feel more grounded, centered and connected to the larger universe.
Moon rituals often involve practices like journaling, meditation or self-care activities. These practices can help us slow down and tune into our own needs and desires, promoting greater self-awareness and self-reflection.
The moon is associated with Feminine Energy, Creativity and Intuition. Moon rituals can help us tap into these energies and unlock our own creative potential.
Many people practice moon rituals in groups, which can provide a sense of community and support. Sharing the experience with others can also help us feel more connected to a larger community and promote feelings of belonging.
Moon Rituals

Moon rituals are a great self-care and empowerment tool. Harnessing the power of the moon can make us feel more productive and inspired. Connecting with nature in this way can help us to understand ourselves on a deeper level.
This is why so many people engage in moon rituals. Moon cycles can help us align with the Earth’s natural cycles and gain more perspective to reconnect with ourselves.
Tips for Moon Rituals

If you are blending or mixing for a spell or ritual, it’s important to remember to use the correct direction for mixing. Stirring clockwise should be used to bring something into your life (manifest, draw in, attract, increase, grow, create). Stirring counter-clockwise should be used to remove or banish (discard, release, banish) something from your life. You should always use high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients in your practice.
My own personal tips:
-yes, the spices you find in the baking aisle of the grocery store will work to get you started
-find a local occult/witchy supply shop that you can get to easily and often as needed. Rely on them for your supplies instead of ordering them from unknown sources online. The energy will be stronger, in my experience
When combining essential oils for any of the rituals, you should mix these with a carrier oil of your choice. Essential oils are highly concentrated and can be very strong so it’s important to dilute them if they are going to be in contact with your skin. Some carrier oil suggestions are Jojoba, Coconut and Sweet Almond Oil.
Essential oils are degraded when exposed to light so you should store any mixes or blends in a dark bottle. Remember that you should be cautious when using anything that comes into contact with your skin.
Before starting any magical practice or ritual you should get yourself into the right headspace. Before a ritual or spell you should feel calm and focused. Many people, therefore, will perform a meditation or breathing exercise before hand.
One simple technique is to find a comfortable spot, close your eyes and breathe deeply. Take 10-15 gentle but deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Music can also be useful for many to help you get in the zone and out of your head.
Moon Baths

Moon Baths have a special connect with the moon due to its influence over the tides. Given that our bodies are 60% water, the moon’s movements have an impact on us.
Moon Baths have many benefits for your skin and can help to regulate hormones. Moon rituals can also encourage self-reflection, bring tranquility and help you to detox.
New Moon Bath Ritual

You Need:
100g Epsom Salt
50g Himalayan Pink Salt
1 Tbsp dried lavender
3 drops essential oil of your choosing
Handfull of dried flower petals.
Do this bath ritual on the first night of the new moon. Add the above ingredients to a warm bath. Turn down the lights. Enjoy a moment to yourself and think about the intentions you would like to set for the new moon.
Full Moon Bath Ritual

You Need:
100g Himalayan Salt
1 handful of rose petals
1 thinly sliced lemon
A few drops of lemon essential oil.
Do this bath on the first night of a full moon. Set the mood by lighting some candles and playing some soothing music. Then add the ingredients to a warm bath. Make sure to release any negative energy or emotions.
When you’re ready, get in the bath and consider your intentions for the coming month. Visualize the full moon’s energy surrounding you and filing you with abundance and positivity. Remember to extinguish (pinch, snuff or blow out) your candles when you’re finished.
Lunar Elixir Spell

You Need:
1 Piece of fresh Ginger
2 Pinches of dried chamomile
1 Tsp of dried peppermint
1 cup black tea
Make this tea on a full moon to leave you calm, focused and centered. Add a sliver of the ginger and the herbs to your tea.
Chant this mantra before you drink:
“On this day I pray for calm and health. I ask for the wisdom to see the beauty in each waking moment.”
Moonstone Magic Spell

You need:
1 moonstone
a full moon night
With this ritual you can look to change something in your life and move on. During a full moon, go outside with your moonstone in hand. Close your eyes and think of the things you want to change in your life.
Repeat this mantra:
“Mother Moon take these trials away from me.”
Utter this every night by your window until the new moon comes. On that night, go to a place far from your home and bury the moonstone. Look back as you leave, knowing that part of yourself will never come back.
Bonding Moon Brew

You need:
1 cup Jasmine tea
1 Tsp of honey
Share this drink with a friend. Jasmine will strengthen your bond. This spell is recommended on Monday or “Moon Day”. By doing it at the start of the week, you can fill your week with joyfulness. Add honey to the tea and allow it to cool.
While the tea brews, repeat this spell:
“I call upon the energy of this Moon Day. Guide joy to my door, show me the best way to live. For this I am grateful.”
Charging your Tools

Charging your tools such as tarot/oracle cards, crystals, wands, runes, any new items you’ve purchased for your altar/magickal use, is a great way to harness the moon’s energy. Doing this can help amplify their powers and effectiveness.
Place the tools in a place near a window where the moons light will be cast upon them and leave them there overnight on the night of a full moon.
Moon Bathing

Think “sunbathing” but at night and with the moon’s light… This is a fantastic way to soak up the moon’s energy. A great way to do this is by getting outside when the moon is full. You can sit near a window if you can’t get outside or if for weather reasons, you prefer to stay inside.
Moon Water

You need:
a clear glass jar
water
a full moon evening
To make Moon Water, fill a clean, clear glass jar with purified water and place it outside under the full moon light where it won’t be tampered with by any passers by. Leave it there overnight to absorb the moon’s energy.
In the morning, collect the jar and you will have charged moon water that can be used for various purposes like drinking, bathing, or watering plants.
