Cleanse Your Space

There are many ways to cleanse the energy in your home.

First and most basic way is to literally clean your home. Open curtains and let in the light, open windows if you can and sweep the stale energy right out of your house.

After that, you can chose a variety of your favorite cleansing and smudging techniques. Please be sure to be respectful of the tools you choose and their historical and cultural references.

Smudging: Sage, Palo Santo, Dragons Blood, Rosemary, Sweet Grass…

Also: Mix Florida Water with filtered water (50/50 mix) in a spray bottle and spray down curtains, furniture and the air.

Selenite over your doorways to create an energy barrier that will cleanse you as you pass through and prevent negative energies/entities from following you in.

What is cleansing? What do I mean when I say Cleanse yourself, your space, your home?

Cleansing is the practice of clearing out and releasing negative energy as well as energy that is old, stale, stagnant or no longer serving you. You might consider this “energetic hygiene” because it’s not just something you do when a negative experience has happened, but more something that can and really should be done on a regular basis.

Why is it important to cleanse your space?

Space and objects can pick up and store the energy of people that move through or near them. Cleansing helps keep that energy from lingering long term. This is about clearing out the old and making way for new, fresh energy to flow.

How do you know when you need to cleanse your space?

It might sound cliche, but listen to your instincts, your gut. When you feel off, or everyone in the house is in a bad mood for no reason, or you’re feeling crummy but you’re perfectly well. Or even after you’ve gotten over a cold or flu or had a visitor over. There’s really quite a few reasons you will feel the need to cleanse your space. My advice – go with it and just cleanse that ick right out!

How often should you cleanse your space?

Honestly? as often as you want. If you practice magick or witchcraft, it’s a good idea to cleanse yourself, your space and tools before and after rituals and spellwork, especially if you’ve communicated with spirits.

If you have someone coming to stay for a few days in your home, you can cleanse before they arrive to protect your space, and again after they leave to clear out and release any energy they brought with them.

What else can you cleanse with these methods?

Cleanse your room, or whole home/apartment. Cleanse items you use frequently or just purchased – whether they were new or bought used or antiques. You can cleanse your phone, jewelry, watch, literally anything you use and rely on. Energy attaches to things and that energy lingers and accumulates over time. So it’s always a good idea to cleanse things.

You can cleanse your jewelry by placing them in a dish of salt for a short period of time. I wouldn’t do this if the jewelry is not made of Stainless steel, sterling silver or pure gold because other metals might oxidize in the salt… YES – any salt will work, but I like sea salt or himalayan salt or a mixture of both if you can find it.

Alternative ways to cleanse your jewelry is to pass the items through the smoke of a cleansing herb or incense like dragon’s blood or sage.

Refer to the Cleansing Your Space PDF Resources provided for a list of herbs you can use to cleanse with, alternative cleansing methods and some preliminary information about using sage.

*Note: there are many varieties of Sage, so you don’t have to use WHITE SAGE which is the item that is considered cultural appropriation when used by non-indigenous people. Look for any variety of Salvia that isn’t Salvia Apiana. You could go with Salvia Officinalis, common garden sage which can even be purchased in the produce department of a grocery store.
