Combining the lessons in my Moon Magic course and The Moon and the Zodiac course, we are able to identify the best, strongest and most potent days to work magick to help bring us closer to our goals, protect us, or help rid things that no longer serve our highest purpose.
So – With the knowledge of those courses within us – here’s how today’s energies align… May you find a way to work with today’s energies to help you get closer to your goal, achieve what you desire, protect yourself or rid things that no longer align with you.
IMBOLC
Imbolc (pronounced im-bulk or im-mol’g) is a Gaelic festival marking the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It is one of the four “fire festivals” of the Celtic calendar.
It’s a time of “hidden” beginnings—the seeds are still underground and the world is still cold, but life is starting to wake up.
Key Themes
- Hope and Rebirth: Acknowledging that the darkest part of winter is behind us.
- Purification: Cleaning out the old (physically and spiritually) to make room for the new.
- Fire and Light: Representing the increasing power of the sun.
Traditions and Symbols
Because this holiday is deeply rooted in Irish folklore, much of it revolves around Brigid—originally a Celtic goddess of poetry, healing, and smithcraft, later canonized as St. Brigid.
Brigid’s Cross – Woven from reeds or straw, these four-armed crosses are hung over doorways for protection and luck
The Crios Bhride – a woven “Brigid’s Girdle” that people would step through as a ritual of purification and health.
Candle Lighting – Placing a candle in every window of the home to welcome the returning sun.
Spring Cleaning – Sweeping out the hearth and tidying the home to “clear the air” for the coming spring.
Weather Divination – Legend says if the weather is foul, the “Cailleach” (winter hag) is sleeping and spring will come soon. If it’s sunny, she’s gathering firewood for a longer winter. This is the ancestor of Groundhog Day.
Common Symbols
- Snowdrops: Often the first flowers to poke through the snow.
- Dairy: Milk, butter, and cheese (symbolizing the return of life and the ewes lambing).
- White and Yellow: Colors representing purity and the sun.
Day – Sunday lends energies to efforts focused on goals, wellness, merriment, personal finances, career advancement, produce or crops, legal matters, “guy stuff”, and business/professional partnerships.
Zodiac – The moon in Leo lends energies to efforts regarding authority, power over others, courage, fertility or childbirth.
Moon – Our moon goes FULL today at 5:10pm Eastern which lends energies to increasing intuition, boosting rituals and spellwork, and increasing your concentration.
So today – Today, I would advise taking some time to cleanse your space. Dont just wipe down your table and think you’re done. Pick up the clutter, put it away. Toss the garbage – why are you keeping that anyway? You dont need the box, recycle it.
You want to cleanse the air in your home too – if you live in an area where the temperatures are more forgiving in February, open your window and smudge with sage or rosemary or whatever you prefer. Since I live in very cold New England, opening windows for smudging isn’t an option. Instead, I have a spray bottle that I fill with a mixture of filtered water and Florida Water, mix it up and I spray it lightly on any fabric through the house as well as into the air.
I know it seems like I just told you to clean your home but this is what Imbolc is about. Clearing out the old to make way for the new.
You can also use today’s energies to manifest “fertility” and this doesn’t just have to be about reproduction. Sunday’s energies are very “focus on your career advancement” so fertility in that aspect could mean allowing the seed of your career ambitions to be planted and nurturing it to fruition.
You know what I always say: Take time to think about exactly how you want to use these energies today, then take action. Whatever you choose to do, remember to be clear with your intent and mindful with your words.
Happy Manifesting and Blessed Imbolc!
